Hello my pretties!

I've finally finished my second year of university! I still feel like I'm in first year. Doesn't time flies?! Anyway, enough with my chit-chat. Today I have a little review of this little pot of Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gear Eyeliner. I have been craving this for the longest time before I finally bought it. So, you are probably wondering about what I think about this product right? right?! If not, you are in the wrong page here...

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner | Black Ink review

No going to lie, the first time I tried this, I was left feeling rather disappointed. (You might know this if you follow my Instagram @wanischaaa, okay, I've done my bit of self-promoting). This was because I was expecting this gel liner to live up to its name of Black Ink. So, pretty much I was hoping for it to be just like Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner but a little less smudgey. Turns out Bobbi Brown version has a little bit more of a demure natural grey-ish black when swatched.

The packaging is simple, glass jar with black plastic lid, it is what I would expect from an gel liner I buy. The lid fits well and it kept the gel from drying out. Although, I can't speak for the amount of time it takes for the gel liner to dries out completely because mine is still fairly new but I should hope that if you keep the lid tight at all time, then it should be fine. For the price, I was kind of hoping that it would come with a brush too but I guess their target market is aimed at more mature people that would have a liner brush already...maybe? The brush-less issue aside as I already have two, so this doesn't really bother me but I see why some people might not like this. Especially those that haven't tried gel liner before.

One line application and layered application for intense look.

Now, for the application. I find the gel liner to have quite creamy texture however, it doesn't go on as opaque as I had hope. Nonetheless, this means that I can use this liner to create softer look as well as dramatic look by layering. Even though, this gel liner has creamy texture, it also dries fairly quickly too, so no more having to sit for there for like 2 minutes waiting for your eyeliner to dry so it doesn't smudge when you blink, I used to have to do that. I've tried using this liner on my mum and I really have to say that it looks amazing! It applies smoothly and it doesn't make her look overdone, just very naturally pretty (she will be so chuff when she reads this). So, I guess this works with a more mature skin as well.

This is the liner after I left to dry and then I tried to rub it off with my finger.

As for the longevity, this is something that I can totally vouch that Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner definitely lives up to the long-wear claim. I'm one of those people that when I put my make-up on in the morning, I just leave it to be until when I need to take it off at night; no touch up. The liner doesn't flake or does a shuffle across my face, it just stays put. So, I'm very pleased with that. Although, I do find that with my eyes, if I use gel liner, I need to line my lower eyelid too. Otherwise, it will smudge everywhere. I'm not quite sure why this happens but it does.

That just shows how it looks on me. I think it fairly perfect for a soft natural look. Therefore, if you are looking for a gel liner that isn't like BAM! in your face then I think that this would be perfect for you. I also find that gel liner is so much easier to apply than pen eyeliner as you can make more mistakes without it being too obvious. Great for people that doesn't have particularly steady hand. However, I do realise that it is fairly expensive so if you are on a bit of a budget I'd recommend using Maybelline EyeStudio Gel Liner instead as they are fairly similar. Although, the Maybelline one gives a more intense look and smudges a fair bit but it does come with brush.

You can get Bobbi Brown Gel Liner from Debenhams for £17.

  2. This is my favorite gel liner because it has been the one that has lasted the most on me. It really lasts and lasts and lasts. Although mine looks a little darker and more pigmented than yours xx

  11. I like my BB caviar ink eyeliner a lot but the texture is a bit dry I find. My favourite gel liner is kanebo kate, it is so creamy and smooth but they are quite limited when it comes to other shades than black or brown. / Claire xxx

  15. I've been wanting to try this one for a very very long time. I've heard people say it's supposed to be waterproof. Ever since I found an eyeliner I really enjoyed, I kinda forgot about this one. But it looks very pretty on you! And because it's not that dramatic, maybe it's great for everyday. :D
