Hi my sugar!
Yes, that was completely appropriate for this post! Before, I never thought that sugar could be so good for your skin. I have to say that I currently use quite a lot of sugar in my skincare (sugar lip scrub, sugar body scrub and now sugar face mask). If you told me this a few years ago, I'd have thought that sugar would break me out like crazy but it really doesn't. In fact sugar is very beneficial to your skin! It acts as a natural exfoliator, helps clear blemishes and restore skin natural oil balance. The natural glycolic acid in sugar moisturise skin and protects it from toxin! Amazing huh?!
Skin Food Black Sugar Mask is one of the fairly popular Korean product. After hearing about all those amazing benefits of sugar, can you really blame me for being so in love with the whole sugar thing? Plus, the fact that I have very dry flaky skin, the sugar helps me get rid of them by acting as an exfoliator as well as a mask. I honestly love using mask a few times a week because they give my skin a little pick me up.
The packaging of this mask is very sturdy. The plastic pot feels quite thick, it also comes with a plastic insert to stop the mask from leaking and tight lid (although, I don't think that it can leak...seeing as the mask is fairly solid). Once you open the product, you will a whiff of this sugary goodness (smells just like Soap & Glory Sugar Crush); a little bit citrusy. Personally, one of my favourite scent ever!
Terrible picture here but it was very difficult for my camera to capture the texture of this sugar mask. Anyway, this mask has a fairly thick and slightly sticky consistency with unattractive brown colour, which I'm willing to overlook because the mask is truly amazing. It's quite hard to scoop it out of the pot, it requires some real digging force or some spatula. I find the consistency a tad too dry for me to spread it on my face without adding something like toner or water as it makes it more spreadable and less irritating to the skin.
Supposedly you are meant to use this after you wash, cleanse and tone. I know I have make-up on in this picture, so try to overlook that...please. I normally scoop a teaspoon full of this and mix it with toner. Then I rub it over my face in circular motions; giving myself a mini facial as well as scrubbing off the dead cells. Leave it on for about 10-15 minutes and wash off with warm water. It is surprisingly easy to wash off as well. The first time I used it I noticed a difference in my skin straight away because my skin feels brighter and softer. It doesn't make my skin feeling uncomfortably tight or dry like some masks do either. I can totally see why it's so popular now. Also, don't forget to follow it up with moisturiser, especially if you have dry skin like me! Overall, I would highly recommend this mask to anyone and I'm 100% sure that I will be repurchasing this soon.
